ABC's of the Iron Hills Conference: Mid-Winter Edition

A. Alan Buzbee gets the nod here. This stellar athlete would be getting tons of press right now but because of an early football season injury he had to sit out his entire football and basketball season. Still he got a D1 scholarship to University of New Hampshire based solely on his junior year. Ashton Gibbs misses him on the B-Ball court. Just remember Buzbee's name. You might be hearing it on a national level some day.

B. Sarah Bella, Mendham's record breaking shot putter. Every week she is breaking meet records. Actually, the only records left to beat are her own...which she is doing.

C. Columbia Boys B-Ball. What can you say? Ranked 7th in the State and Undefeated. Nothing is fazing this group.

D. Chris Dart, Chatham Swimming. Just qualified of the Olympic Trials in the 100 meter backstroke.

E. Elena Noonan is kicking butt for Parsippany Girls Hoops averaging 19 points per game.

F. Mike Franklin from Mendham track. Franklin is running distance races in blazing times.

G. Asthon Gibbs of Seton Hall Prep. Already heading to Pitt on a full ride and having an outstanding season.

H. Also known as the LeBron James of the Iron Hills (at least on this site he is), Russell Holloway of Mt. Olive will be scoring his 1,000 in the next few games is averaging 21 points per.

I. Emily Peel has brought her West Morris Central girls hoops team to an outstanding 14th rank in the state.

J. Jared Washkau of West Morris Central almost single handidly took down the undefeated Columbia Cougars the other night under his home court.

K. Adam Katz has already broken 1,000 for the Morris Hills Scarlet Knights.

L. Chris Lloyd of Morristown is one of the better wrestlers in the area at 189.

M. Morris County High School Sports (aka: http://www.mchss.net/) just does a fabulous job of providing awesome footage of the local coverage in Morris County. He also sells pictures of kids in action. And he is very affordable!

N. Nick Vena, also known as the Freshman Pheonom. Vena has broken the freshman record for the shot put in the country. That is the United States record.

O. Billy Oliver averages 18 points per for his Chatham Cougars.

P. Morris Hills' Sean Pohorence is rocking Winter Track for the number one ranked team in the conference.

Q. Question? How is it that Columbia has two of the most talented kids in the conference in Jameel Grace and Yvon Raymond? Its not fair.

R. Mendham's Rob Berish has broken out of his shell, bringing his team to the number one team in the County. Mark Cisco's help is not hurting.

S. Seton Hall Prep Hockey: 4th best in the state at 6-4-2.

T. Roxbury Wrestling is the twelfth ranked team in the state at 11-1.

U. Hanover Park's Girls B-Ball coach Doug Wear secured his 100 victory of his career last week. He is following in the footsteps of his father, Wendle, who was the girls head man for decades.

V. Mendham distance runner Laura Vigilante is getting stronger as the weeks go on. At only a sophomore, Vigilante has forgotten how to come in anything besides First Place, as she has done several times this year in the 1600 and the 3200.

W. The West Morris girls b-ball team is a whopping 10-0 and ranked 16th in the state.

X. Ali Mix has taken his E.O. team to 7-3 and has the talent to pick off Columbia if they play their cards right.

Y. Roxbury girls hoops star Cori Younghans is draining 16 points per game. She might very well be the most talented girls hoops player in the conference.

Z. ZZZ...that is what the Morris Knolls and Randolph boys basketball teams have done to me this year.

First of all, I am totally surprised you know the alphabet.

Second, what is so boring about Randolph an Morris Knolls bball? My newphew plays for Gov Livingston and they lost 41-38 the other day. That game sounded boring, other than the fact that my newphew kicks ass and runs the point like a champ (he scored 17 points the other day).

Go Mahon on GL!

Rules, nice!

Valentine smokes all their asses.

Bella Kicks ass.

Buzzby = traitor. 'Nuff said.

Vena is an animal. The motown football coach must be going out of his mind trying to get that kid to play.

TO Mr Vena:

If you are reading this, hear me out. Your son can make much more money in his lifetime tossing offensive linemen around like ragdolls in the NFL or running people over like Christian Okoye. I highly recommend that since you have chosen the great USA as your home, that you stop hanging up on that football coach that keeps calling you and hear him out. As an added bonus, he will be able to date girls that look like Barbie, Megan Fox and Anna Kournikova, very possibly even all three at the same time. Very likely this will not happen if just puts the shot; at least not until he wins a gold medal and then only or 5 minutes...and then he will go the way of Rulon Gardner. Exactly.

Please. Now, move to Mendham and let the kid play the football.

Thank you.

Val, I like the line about moving to Mendham. They do need to replace the line on both sides of the ball.

Vena is aparently has the talent and size to really be something special.

Fakehead, that is awesome about HM Jr. What year is he?

HM is a junior.

Shotputting isn't where it's at. I agree with Val. Besides the "Got Milk" ad your potential to cash in is slim to none.

So that is what the Dude looks like? I pictured longer hair and sunglasses, even on the field. I guess the Dude doesn't abide when it comes to hoops or does he play?

"The Dude" does play hoops...but I dont know what the dillio is. I thought he would be a stud. I havent seen him play but he never scores a lot of points. I thought with the way he played football, he would be good at hoops. He reminds me of a bigger version of John D. (you know, Matt D.'s twin) I know you know all about Matt D...wink wink!

Fakey - you got it. Rulon Gardner was done with his 15 minutes of fame shortly after the Gold he won in 2000. It's sad that all those years of work he put in to his sport went unappreciated after that. Name me one gold medalist in the shot put off the top of your head. Yup, Bingo. This is exactly why shot put is nice but football is where the money is.

Hell, the kid broke the high school indoor record and you'd hardly know it. That shit should have been on the front page of the Daily Record in size 25 font. Instead, Kuty was lucky the record gave him a couple lines of type.

Now think about if he had set the national single season interception record or rushing record - it would have been front page news on the NY Slimes sports section if not the USA today.
